SECRET SESSION OF PARLIAMENT

Meeting In December (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 22. After formal business had been disposed of in the House of Representatives this afternoon the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, suggested that after- tlxe secret session the House should adjourn until Wednesday, December 2, subject to the proviso that members could be called together earlier if necessary. This was agreed to by the House. In reply to a question from the Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, Mr Fraser said he expected they would sit for two or three days in December, but he was not sure if there would be any further legislation. Local authorities had been considering the Bill relating to uniformity of building construction as a safeguard against earthquake. The only other- Bill in the offing was one dealing with the renovation of old houses to make them more habitable. That measure involved discussions with local bodies and the Health Department, and he could not say if it would be ready in December. When a formal motion to clear- the galleries fox- the secret session was put, Mr F. W. Schramm (Lab., Auckland East) exclaimed “No.” The motion was carried and the House went into secret session shortly after 3 p.m.
