LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE Sheep Values Firmer There was a full yarding of sheep at the Lorneville stock sale yesterday and values were slightly firmer. There was a good yarding of cows in the fat cattle section, but heavyweight bullocks were in short supply. FAT SHEEP.— There was again a full yarding in this section, mainly ewes. The sale was quite a sound one from beginning to end with values slightly firmer than last week's. Good quality woolly wethers brought from 44/- to 45/-; medium 42/9 to 43/6; lighter weights 39/- to 41/6; prime shorn wethers 35/- to 36/9; medium 33/to 34/6; prime young woolly ewes 40/-; prime quality 36/- to 37/9; medium quality 32/6 to 34/-; aged and unfinished 28/- to 29/6; inferior 22/- to 25/-. A small entry of good quality fat lambs ranged in value from 35/- to 41/-. FAT CATTLE.— The number yarded in their section was about the same as for the previous sale. Most of the yarding consisted of medium and lightweight cattle of all classes. Cows predominated, heavyweight bullocks being in short supply. The sale was a steady one from start to finish with values a little better than the previous week’s. Prime quality bullocks sold from £22 to £24/10/-; good quality £l9 to £2O 10/-; handyweights £l6/15/- to £l7/10/-: lightweights £l5 to £l5/15/-; unfinished £ll/15/- to £l3; good quality heifers £l4 15/- to £l6/5/-; medium and lightweights £l2 to £l3/10/-; small £lO/5/- to £ll 5/-; prime quality cows £l6/5/-; good quality £l3 to £l4/10/-; medium £lO/10/to £ll/10/-; unfinished to £9/15/-; inferior £6/10/- to £B. STORE CATTLE.— The yarding was a larger one than last week’s, the bulk of the entry again consisting principally of young cattle. Well-bred cattle were in demand and the sale was a good one for all classes. Three-year-old bullocks made from £9 to £ll/13/-; best-bred two-year-olds up to £B/17/6; other two-year-olds £6 10/- to £B. A pen of Hereford heifers made | £7/16/-. Yearling Hereford steers made £6/10/-, the heifers of this line selling at £5/5/-. Yearlings of mixed colour made from £3/10/- to £5. Best-conditioned empty cows made up to £7/2/6; fresh conditioned sorts £5 to £6; culls down to 30/-. In the dairy section there was a small entry and the demand was poor. Guaranteed cows sold from £6/10/- to £7/10/-; others from £3 to £4. STORE SHEEP.— The yarding was larger, ewe hoggets making up the- bulk of the entry. The demand was keen. One line of 330 ewe hoggets sold at 42/-, others making 39/1. Wether hoggets made from 27/- to 29/.- and a pen of two-tooth wethers realized 34/1. Aged ewes with lambs at foot sold at from 13/4 to 16/4, all counted. GORE STOCK SALE A record price for fat bullocks for this season was secured at the fortnightly Gore stock sale yesterday, when two heavy sorts in prime condition changed hands at £25/5/-. The bullocks were offered on account of Mr C. H. W. Tripp (Otaraia) and made keen competition. Other excellent prices I secured for fat bullocks were £23/5/-, £22, £2l/5/-, £2O/5/- down to £l7/2/6, with bullocks carrying a little less condition making down to £l6 and £l5/7/6. Heifers were also in demand and realized from £l6/10/- to £l7. Store steers made up to £9/17/6 and a pen of six two and three-year-olds realized £9. Others sold at £B/2/6 and £6/16/-. Empty heifers brought £7/15/-. Fat wethers and fat ewes made up the most of the sheep entry and in this section the demand was also keen, good prices being secured. Fat wethers brought from 34/up to 45/-, with shorn sheep selling at 36/9. Fat ewes made up to 37/-, other prices being 36/-, 35/9, 33/9, 32/9 down to 26/-. Mixed-sex hoggets brought 26/-. RABBITSKIN SALE (Special) DUNEDIN, October 20. At today’s rabbitskin sale approximately 21 tons were offered. Because of a falling off in quality combined with a slackening in the demand overseas, values as compared with the previous auction rates were on the average 6d to 30d lower. Following is the official range of prices:— First winter bucks 86d to 98d, first winter does 84d to 104 d, second winter bucks 72d to 90d, first spotted winter bucks 66d to 82d, first spotted winter does 72d to 77d, outgoing winter bucks 53d to 67d. outgoing winter does 63d to 70d, spring bucks 36d to 41d. spring does 40d to 50>/ 2 d, furrier does 70d to 82d, stained does 32d to 36d, milky does 12d to 24d, summers 14d to 16d, winter broken 28d to 34d, second winter broken 20d to 24d, summer broken 12d to 16d, winter blacks 66d to 72d, second winter blacks 48d i to 60d, winter fawns 20d to 28d, second winter fawns 14d to 16d, hareskins 12d to 15d, horsehair to 29d.

GOLD DREDGING RETURNS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 20. Gillespie’s wash-up was 330 z 3dwt for 118 hours. The returns of Gold Mines of New Zealand, Limited, for the half-month ended October 15 were: Barrytown, 218 hours, 190 oz; Kanleri, 203 horns, 3540 z; Arahura, 256 hours, 4960 z.
