SECOND LIBERTY LOAN

Seventeen applications for the second Liberty Loan stock were received in Southland yesterday. The amount involved was £4620 and this brought Southland’s contribution to the loan to date to £54,680. Mr Hugh Ritchie will speak on the loan from station 4YZ at 7.15 this evening. The City Council at its meeting last night decided, on the recommendation of the Finance Committee, to refer the question of the council subscribing to the second Liberty Loan to the chairman of the Finance Committee, Cr F. A. Webb, and the town clerk with power to act. In a report to the council the Finance Committee stated: “From the limited funds available for the purpose the council has already made substantial investments in the first Liberty Loan and in the National Savings account. It may be possible to make further investments in the second Liberty Loan.”
