SAVINGS OF WAIHOPAI SCHOOL CHILDREN
To date the children of the Waihopai School have paid in £223/17/6 to their group National Savings accounts. In addition a sum of over £2OOO has been deposited in the school savings bank accounts since 1935. The present year's deposits amount to £l9B, made up of 547 6d deposits, 566 1/- deposits and 767 deposits of other amounts. One standard VI girl, who has regualrly deposited 2/6 weekly during school terms, has a credit balance of £42. As both National Savings deposits and school savings bank deposits are lent to the war funds account, the assistance given to the war effort by the Waihopai School children is considerable. Their example also shows that small amounts regularly saved quickly mount up. Mr A. Thompson, the head master, acts as collector for the Post Office and the success attained is due to iris keenness to encourage thrift.
