ONE-DAY CRICKET MATCHES

A decision to play one-day matches and to limit the hours of play from 1.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. was made by the Southland Cricket Association at a meeting of the management committee last evening. It was stated that the prospects of obtaining a secretary were good and that arrangements would be completed shoitly. It was decided to arrange competitions in the senior, junior and third (under 17 years) grades and to extend the closing of entries until Tuesday, October 27. Dr G. H. Uttley was appointed selector of the Southland team and Mr W. T. Baker was appointed junior selector. The committee decided to communicate with the Otago Association and suggest the playing of an Otago-Southland match during the Christmas or New Year holidays. It was reported that the Invercargill senior team had amalgamated with Old Boys.
