Sporting GOOD FIELDS AT GORE

NINE IN PRINCIPAL HANDICAP Good sport is assured at the Gore Racing Club’s meeting on Saturday. The acceptances show a total of 72, and with mn carded for the main event the programme may be regarded as particularly attractive. Trains For Gore A special train, stopping at woodianas, Edendale and Mataura only will leave Invercargill on Saturday for the Gore racecourse at 10.30 a.m., returning leaving tne Gore racecourse shortly after the last race. A train will also leave the racecourse at 6.30 p.m. for Invercargill, stopping where required. Night Pal When Night Pal won the principal handicap at Gore last Labour Day he carried 8.10 and won with ease. On the strength of that performance he was made second favourite in the New Zealand Cup, but tie failed to finish in a place. A fortnight ago Night Pal showed that he was about at nis best again by running third in the Telegraph Handicap at Wingatui. He is in tne President’s Handicap at Gore on Saturday with 7.10 to carry, a stone less than he had last year. He has also been paid up for in the Stewards’ Handicap (six furlongs).

Haughty Winner Haughty Winner, the Winning Hit' lll ®’ dainful stallion standing at Mr J. R- Co jh' rane's Gore stud, will be on view at the Gore racecourse on Saturday. Haughty Winner looks to be still a good racing proposition. He is only eight years old and is as sound as a bell.

The green was in first-class order. EXCELSIOR TENNIS CLUB The Excelsior Tennis Club, Tuatapere, was favoured with perfect weather on Saturday when the official opening was held. Between 40 and 50 players and visitors attended, and mixed doubles and women’s doubles were played.
