ADMINISTRATION OF HOSPITAL
Grievances Aired At Tapanui Grievances about the administration of the Tapanui Hospital were aired in no uncertain manner by residents of the town and district at a public meeting held at Tapanui on Saturday afternoon. Representations were made at the meeting to members of the Otago Hospital Board that there was considerable dissatisfaction over the fact that Dr V. S. Land, who took over the practice of the late Dr W. Robertson, was not allowed to continue treating his patien'.s when they were admitted to hospital, and after a long discussion a resolution recommending the board to give Dr Land access to his patients at the hospital and to enable him to use the facilities of the institution was carried by a large majority. More than 100 district residents attended the meeting, which was presided over by the Mayor of Tapanui, Mr J. S. Varcoe. Associated with Mr Varcoe were Messrs J. W. Dove, chairman of the Otago Hospital Board, J. Jacobs, secretary, and J. George, representative of the Tuapeka County and Tapanui borough on the board. The following motion, moved by Mrs H. King (Heriot), was carried by 74 votes to 11, a number not voting, after a long discussion: “That this public meeting is of the opinion that any resident doctor in the district should have access to the Tapanui Hospital and have full hospital facilities and authority to enable him to give proper treatment to his patients.”
