LEARNERS’ SHEARING CLASS

Start At Lumsden Next Week Ten or 12 learners will attend a shearers’ class at Lumsden next week. The class was inaugurated as an annual event two years ago when war conditions made the shortage of shearers acute. It is controlled by the Southland Council of Primary Production, the Southland Executive of the Farmers’ Union and the Southland Agricultural and pastoral Association. The class will begin next Tuesday at Mr A. F. J. Heath’s woolshed. The learners will assemble on Monday night in readiness for an early start next morning. They will be accommodated on the property and a cook has been provided. Both blade and machine shearing will be taught. The class will be under Mr G. R. Herron at the beginning and Mr F. E. Carter later.
