HOUSE DESTROYED AT MATAURA

A seven-roomed house, situated about two miles north of Mataura and owned lay Mi- Boyd Taylor, was completely destroyed by a fire which broke out in the early hours of Sunday morning. The contents of the house were also lost. Mi- Taylor was away at the time.

The alarm was given at 12.10 a.m. on Sunday and the Mataura Volunteer Fire Brigade was soon on the scene. The house was out of the area of , water reticulation and the brigade was not abel to save the house or any of the outbuildings as there was no water available. It is thought that the fire started in the kitchen. The house is insured in the State Office for £6OO and the furniture is insured with the New Zealand Insurance Company for £2OO.
