BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS.—The Southland County Council at its meeting yesterday decided to give £2/2/- to the funds of the Southland Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association. BLACKOUT TRIAL. —A complete blackout trial will be held in Invercargill on Wednesday, October 28. The time will be announced later. Wardens will patrol the streets to see that the regulations are complied with. CHIMNEY FIRE.—The City Fire Brigade received a call at 6.33 p.m. yesterday to a chimney fire at the residence of Mr O. G. Gilmour, 350 Dee street. The fire was extinguished by means of a bucket pump before any damage was done. NATIONAL SAVINGS.—The £llOO mark has been passed in National Savings this week, leaving about £9OO required today to reach the quota of £2043 at Invercargill for the forty-eighth successive week.
