MATERNITY HOSPITAL AT OTAUTAU

A letter from the Director-General of Health requesting that the board purchase a section and proceed with the construction of a five-bed maternity hospital at Otautau was received by the Southland Hospital Board at its meeting yesterday. In accordance with a recommendation of the executive committee it was decided to reply advising that Mrs A. Officer was prepared to proceed with extensions to her hospital in order to cater for an increased number of patients. Mr J. H. Smith said that Otautau was about 16 miles from the Riverton maternity hospital and about the same distance from the Nightcaps maternity hospital.
