AIR FORCE CONTROL
Clearing Up “Sore Points” (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, October 14. The Australian Associated Press understands that it is hoped to make substantial progress at the air conference to clear up “two sore points”—air crew promotions and the low proportion of all-Australian crews and allAustralian squadrons. The High Commissioner, Mr S. M. Bruce, will represent Australia. The New Zealand and Australian Air Forces are also likely to win the right to appoint personnel liaison officers to all Royal Air Force commands in Britain and abroad. They hope to secure an agreement similar to the BritishCanadian agreement. Well-informed circles consider the most satisfactory system would be one by which Australian Air Force headquarters in London and the New Zealand liaison officers “policed” promotions for their nationals serving with the Royal Air Force and had their own promotion boards to which the men could apply direct, instead of depending on the Royal Air Force machinery. It is pointed out that some excellent men do not apply for commissions, for which reason it is desirable that the initiative should be taken by New Zealand or Australian headquarters from the records, also from the reports of personnel officers.
