SECOND LIBERTY LOAN

Subcsriptions to the second Liberty Loan in Southland yesterday totalled £3300, made up of one application for 1948 stock (£600) and 10 applications for 1953-56 stock totalling £2700. The total since Monday is £43,750, plus a few advance ones received by the Reserve Bank direct. To assist subscribers to the loan the trading banks are willing to grant special Liberty Loan advances. Upon the applicant depositing 10 per cent, of the amount subscribed for the banks will purchase the stock and accept repayment at the rate of 15 per cent, a month. This means, that for £lO immediate payment £lOO will be subscribed to the loan. The advances are made at a reduced rate of 3li per cent, per annum.
