Mr Charles E. Begg, of Dunedin, arrived in Invercargill by the midday express yesterday on a short business visit. He will return to Dunedin today. Mr and Mrs C.'Lewis, of Invercargill, have taken over the management of the Grand Hotel. Chaplain Lieutenant-Colonel J. A. Thomson arrived in Invercargill by the midday express yesterday from a northern military camp to attend the funeral of Sir Robert Anderson. Dr H. Hunter, medical superintendent of the Southland Hospital, has resumed duty after being absent on sick leave. This was reported at a meeting of the Hospital Board yesterday and the hope was expressed that his speedy return to normal good health was now assured. Mr A. J. Allom has been appointed caretaker of the Crinan street emergency hospital. Advice has now been received that Sergeant-Pilot Russell S. Pearce, son of Mr and Mrs F. H. Pearce, Bluff, at the time of his death was a fighter pilot, flying a Spitfire. He was buried with full Royal Air Force honours in Boverton Cemetery, Wales. Mrs V. Johnstone, Tyne street, has received word that her son, Pilot Officer F. S. Johnstone, who is serving in the Pacific area, has been promoted to the rank of flying officer. Flying Officer Johnstone returned to New Zealand earlier in the year after serving in Singapore.
