Mrs A. E. Smith, Gala street, has returned I after an extended visit to Auckland . i Mrs A. G. Dumbleton, Tapanui, is the guest of Mrs T. L. Macdonald. Gore. . Mrs P. H. Nicholson, Chelmsford street, I is the guest of Mrs A. H. Ellis, Albert street, Winton. Mrs J. R. McLeod, Rangitata, is visiting her mother, Mrs J. E. Bews, Dalrymple Mr and Mrs Lester Moller, Duke street, have returned from Dunedin, where they attended the wedding of Dr .E. M. Elder. Tuatapere, to Sister Lilian Wilson. Although the Spinning Circle of the Southland Women’s Club has been established only since June, a great amount of work has been done by the members. It was reported at the meeting yesterday that 31 pairs of sea boot stockings and 13 heavy jerseys Hhd been knitted and nearly all of these had gone to Southland men either on mine-sweepers or in the Merchant Navy The circle appreciated the number of fleece; that had been donated and it was stated that the darker fleeces were acceptable, as it was from these that the jerseys were spun and knitted. More fleeces were required and would be gratefully received The following office-bearers were elected for the year: Chairman, Mrs W. J. Jones; secretary. Miss Margaret Crawford; committee, Mesdames H. Rewi Kingsland, A. F. Ritchie Crawford, H. Cuthbert and Miss F. England. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Margaret Clelland, only daughter of Mr and Mrs J. C. Scott, Queenstown, to Thomas Stevenson, elder son of Mr and Mrs W. Little, Lumsden. 4263.
