MARRIED WOMAN’S DEATH
(P.A.) AUCKLAND. October 14. Believing she was suffering from pressure on the head, causing her mind to fade, a young and happily married woman, after writing poignant letters to friends and the Coroner, donned a bathing suit and went into the sea at Blockhouse Bay, the body being found later. This was disclosed at the inquest into the death of Nancy Freer, aged 31, who lived in Parnell. In a letter to friends Mrs Freer wrote that had she known that she had pressure on the head she would not have married. She was a brilliant musician and toured extensively in England and Canada. "In Aubrey I had the most wonderful husband any woman could have," she wrote. "No one else really understood me. I cannot bear to leave him, but it is better just drifting off. I hope he will remarry and save his happiness." The husband gave evidence that they had lived happily and his wife had no ill-health until two months ago. The Coroner, Mr F. K. Hunt, returned a verdict of suicide by drowning. WOMAN KILLED (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 14.
