PRISONERS OF WAR

Correspondence Restricted (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. Prisoners of war in Germany have written to next-of-kin in New Zealand advising them that a restriction on correspondence was being imposed. Mr J. Abel, chairman of the Prisoners ,of War Committee of the Red Cross Society stated that this threatened restriction was known and steps had already been taken to ask the Swiss Government to press for reconsideration of the action said to have been taken because German prisoners’ mail service was considered inadequate. The action by the Germans is believed to apply not only to New Zealand, for the Sydney Red Cross Society has inquired for details of New Zealand prisoners’ mail services which, it states, are better than their own.
