NATIONAL SAVINGS

More Support Wanted The hope that the city’s National Savings quota would be readied each week during the second Liberty Loan campaign, for which Southland’s objective is £350,000, was expressed by Mr W. G. Nield, district organizer, in an interview yesterday. “There are many people earning good wages and salaries who could easily afford to make deposits which would materially assist in raising the money ball at the post office each week,” Mr Nield said. “The Invercargill National Savings Committee is trying to keep up the city’s record of National Savings quota successes for 52 weeks in succession, although large investments have been very difficult to obtain during the past few weeks. Those who cannot support the second Liberty Loan with £lO or more could make deposits to National Savings and thereby assist the war effort in another way. There will not be any special National Savings feature such as Bonds for Bombers in conjunction with the present loan, so ordinary National Savings investments only will be available for raising the city’s weekly quota.” Last week 22 new National Savings accounts were opened in the Invercargill postal district, making the total 18,553. The objective for the district is 20,000 accounts.
