WILFUL DAMAGE TO ROAD SIGNS
Reporting on wilful damage to road signs, Mr H. A. McColl, patrol officer of the Automobile Association (Southland), stated at a meeting of the general committee of the association last night that in some instances sign-posts had been lifted out of the ground and turned right round. Lieutenant-Coloned H. C. Mackenzie said that this sort of thing could be stopped if a “foot” were put on a signpost when it was erected. Mr M. M. Macdonald said it was not usual to put a “foot” on a sign post unless it had been tampered with. The chairman, Mr S. C. K. Smith: Tampering with sign-posts is not peculiar to Southland. It occurs in other parts of the country. A proposal by the road signs committee that a reserve fund should be established for the purpose of carrying out road sign work after the war was referred to the finance committee for consideration.
