OBITUARY
DR J. D. C. DUNCAN (P.A.) WELLINGTON. October 12. Information has been received that Dr John Donald Campbell Duncan, Government Balneologist at Rotorua, died at Mount Maunganul, near Tauranga, on Saturday. He was (61 years of age. He was a past president! of the Auckland Society of Arts and in 1934 won the Bledisloe Medal for the best landscape. The following year he won the British Drama League’s competition for the best three-act play. MR W. D. LYSNAR (P.A.) GISBORNE, October 12. The death occurred this morning after a short illness of Mr William Douglas Lysnar, a former Member of Parliament. Mr Lysnar, who was 75 years of age, was born at Auckland and after completing his education studied for the legal profession and practised in Gisborne. He served with the East Coast Hussars against Te Kooti. He was a former member of the Gisborne Borough Council, being Mayor from 1908 to 1911. He was elected to Parliament in 1919, defeating the late Sir James Carroll, and held that seat until 1931, when he was defeated by the present member, Mr D. W. Coleman. He was again unsuccessful in 1935. Mr Lysnar was chairman of the Gisborne Farmers’ Meat Company for a term.
