NATIONAL SAVINGS For the first time for several weeks Gore reached its quota for National Savings last week and on Saturday at mid-day the victory flag was hoisted. The total received at the Gore Post Office up to mid-day on Saturday was £798, which is well ahead of the quota of £5OO. PERSONAL. — Mr C. M. Wilson, who has been secretary and accountant of the Gore Publishing Co. Ltd., for the last 20 years, leaves for Dunedin this week to receive treatment necessary because of wounds suffered in the Great War. Mr Wilson was met by the directors and staff of the company and presented with a solid leather attache case from the staff and a cheque from the directorate. The presentation was made by Mr H. A. Hull, managing editor. Messrs P. G. Ross, J. Ross and I. W. Martin, mechanical staff, W. R. J. Pollock, commercial staff, and F. J. McArthur, literary staff, also spoke. Mr Wilson replied. LAWN TENNIS.— Rain interrupted play at the official opening of the St. Patrick’s Tennis Club on Saturday afternoon and a tournament which had been started had to be abandoned. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. The courts were declared open for play for the season by the patron of the club, the Rev. Father T. S. Kavanagh, who expressed the hope that the club would experience a successful season.
