AVIARY AT GORE
Otago Acclimatization Society’s View “Members are very sympathetic towards the work done by Mr W. D. F. King, of Gore, and you may rest assured that pending a favourable report everything will be done to have the aviary re-established,” stated the Otago Acclimatization Society in a letter in which it advised the Southland Acclimatization Society that the matter was being investigated and that a report on the aviary would be submitted in due course. The letter, which was received at a meeting of the council of the Southland Society last night, was in reply to one from the Southland Society in which the opinion was expressed that the aviary should be re-established and that Mr King should be encouraged with his work, which had been interrupted by the Department of Internal Affairs taking action and releasing all the native birds in the aviary. The Otago Society was asked if it would consider recommending to the Minister that the aviary be re-established under the supervision of the Otago Society since the aviary was in its district.
