NAZI ACTION AT TRONDHEIM

STATE OF EMERGENCY LONDON, October 6. A state of emergency has been declared in the Trondheim region of Norway and has also been proclaimed in the surrounding provinces. The quisling gauleiter, Rodstad, who is prefect of the province of Trondheim, has taken over the administration of the territories. Messages reaching Stockholm state that the police have been active in arresting those leading members of the Quisling Party who are not considered to be sufficiently German in their sympathies. Berlin radio stated that the emergency had been proclaimed because acts of sabotage had been committed which, if they were successful, would endanger the country’s safety. OUTBREAKS OF SABOTAGE The police district of Trondheim in Norway and 10 other large districts have been placed under martial law, according to Oslo radio. Josef Terboven, the German Commissar in Norway, states that during the past few weeks sabotage has recurred in various places with toe object of breaking down the supply system. Therefore, regulations have been issued providing that all disturbances of public security and order, all interference with the agents of the executive and toe administration, all interference with people willing to work or with centres of information and the Press and all interference with supplies and communications will be punished with death. The curfew is to be imposed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. All local traffic must cease by 7 p.m. and the railways may be used only by the German Armed Forces and by people with special permits. The curfew is to be imposed on all public places at 7 p.m., cinemas are to close altogether and all meetings indoors, and out and all street gatherings are made illegal. Finally, all orders by the authorities must be unconditionally obeyed. Any resistance will be broken by toe use of arms. The decree states: “Security will thus be afforded to all peace-loving citizens.” According to a Stockholm report Terboven in a speech on toe state of emergency in Trondheim, explained that sabotage was recently committed in toe Trondheim area, mainly'against food factories. The police have been ordered to strike with all toe means available if necessary. Terboven warned Norwegians that the future would be hard, but they had nothing to fear if they refrained from rash acts.
