FRENCHMEN STRIKE
Order To Go To Germany LONDON, October 6. French workers in the great Renault factory near Paris went on strike for three hours on Friday as a protest against the Vichy ultimatum to French workers. The ultimatum declares that unless toe 150,000 French workers asked for by Germany are forthcoming by October 15, there will be a compulsory calling-up of men in toe whole of occupied France. The ultimatum shows that French workers are not giving support to Pierre Laval’s earlier appeals. A. terrific bomb explosion on Sunday destroyed toe Lyons bureau of the German organization for recruiting French workers for toe Reich. Reporting this, toe British United Press Vichy correspondent adds that the explosion occurred three days after the Vichy announcement that more men were expected to volunteer for work in Germany. The Swiss radio reported that two bombs were thrown at Montpelier (France) into premises occupied by collaborationists. Considerable damage was done.
