PRESENT OF SCREWS
New Guinea Natives Pleased (Special Australian Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 7 p.m.) SYDNEY, October 7. Delighted with a handful of brass screws presented to them by members of the crew of a crashed United States bomber, New Guinea natives guided toe airmen back to Port Moresby. The plane crashed not far from the Japanese base at Salamaua. The members of toe crew dismantled the undamaged parts and filled their pockets with toe screws. Lost in toe jungle, they found toe natives reluctant to show them toe way to Port Moresby until they produced toe screws. The native fought between themselves to gain possession of these. Some removed the bone ornaments from then’ noses and replaced them with screws.
