CHANGE IN HOURS OF CHURCH SERVICES

With the lengthening of hours of daylight most city churches which held services in the afternoons during the winter months have arranged to revert to normal evening hours. At St. Mary’s Basilica the change was made on the last Sunday in September and at First, St. Paul’s and Knox Presbyterian Churches evening services will be resumed next Sunday. At St. John’s Anglican Church and North Invercargill Presbyterian Church evening services will begin on October 18. Afternoon services in these churches were held in the winter because of the difficulty of complying with reduced lighting regulations. Because of the obligation of Home Guardsmen to attend parades on Sundays, early morning mass at St. Mary’s Basilica is now being celebrated at 7 o’clock, the change to that hour being made much earlier in the summer season than usual.
