Henderson (Waikaka) was charged with operating an unlicensed motorcycle and with having no driving licence. The defendant was convicted and fined £l, costs 12/-, on the first charge and on the second charge he was convicted and discharged. Peter S. Stevenson (Riversdale) was convicted and ordered to pay costs 12/- for operating an unlicensed motor vehicle. Noel Derrett (Wendonside) was convicted and ordered to pay costs 12/- on a similar charge.

A youth, whose name was suppressed, was charged with a breach of a probation order. He pleaded guilty and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called upon within 12 months. Duncan Kerr (Mr A. L. Dolamore) pleaded not guilty to two charges of breaches of the Sale of Food and Drugs Act in' that he sold milk containing 19 per cent, of water and milk containing less than 8.5 per cent, of milk solids other than milk fat.

It was stated that the defendant supplied milk to a Gore milk vendor, Mr Gutschlag, and that a sample taken from this milk at Kerr’s home had contained 19 per cent, of water. After hearing the evidence the Magistrate dismissed both charges. He said there was no doubt that the milk had contained 19 per cent, of water, but he thought they might have got nearer the truth about who put it there if the driver of the vendor’s lorry had been present in Court. "The inspector admits the possibility that the water was added while his back was turned, and I feel that it would be most unjust and unsafe on the evidence to enter a conviction," stated the Magistrate.
