RIVERS ABOVE NORMAL
The Oreti river, according to a report received from Lumsden yesterday afternoon, although still very high, was falling steadily. The weather was cold and overcast. A message received at the Chief Post Office at 3.30 p.m. gave the following particulars:—Garston, 4ft above normal; Balfour, sft above normal, rising; Waikaia, 3ft 6in above normal, steady rain; Glenary, slightly above normal, falling; Gore, 3ft 6in above normal. A message received at midday yesterday by the Automobile Association (Southland) stated that the river was over the road at Stag Creek near Mossburn to a depth of 18in to 2ft.
