CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP

Southland Association It was reported at the annual meeting of the Southland Children’s Health Camp Association last night that 74 Southland children had spent periods at the Roxburgh King George V. Memorial Camp and had benefited greatly from the treatment. Mrs E. V. McKeever was chairman of the meeting. The annual report stated that it was regretted it was found necessary to abandon the annual health camp at Omaui, but it was hoped’ that it would be possible to hold a camp as usual next summer. The buildings and property at Omaui had been maintained in good order and a new electric lighting plant had been erected. The sleeping accommodation for the staff had been increased by the erection of two additional bedrooms. The total income amounted to £l3l/2/1, of which £lO4/7/- came from donations and £2O from the Reginald MacKinnon Trust. In moving the adoption of the annual report, Mrs McKeever said the camp was in good order and the buildings had been, improved during the year. Mr M. Miller presented the balance-sheet and said the financial position was quite sound, there being a credit balance of £154 9/6. More funds would be available from the district executive when the association held its next camp at Omaui. The association had many generous friends and had received very valuable donations. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. ’Mrs McKeever said that if it was not possible to hold a camp at Omaui next summer a proportion of the Southland children would be able to go to the Roxburgh camp. McGorlick: honorary solicitor, Mr S. M. Macalister; honorary medical adviser. Dr David Jennings; honorary dental officer, Dr G. J. Yule; honorary auditor, Mr J. R. Officer; secretary and treasurer, Miss G. Basstian; general committee, Mesdames E. V. McKeever, Stanley Brown, J. N. Armour, A. Hanan, J. L. Napier, F. W. Lokan, J. H. Leigh, M. P. Anderson, R. C. Abernethy and M. Dobbie, Messrs F. M. Corkill, J. Pickard. W. H. Woodward, M. Miller, J. S. Robbie, M. P. Anderson, F. Lange, and the Revs. J. A. Thomson and R. H. Turner.

Appreciation was expressed of the assistance of the Boy Scouts in holding a copper trail on show day and raising £29/16/6 for the association. Hopes were expressed that a similar effort would be made this year.
