The rainfall for the month was 2.49 inches, compared with 1.49 inches for the same month last year, the increase being due to the heavy rain which fell during the last week of the month. The sunshine figures were again fairly good. The sun shone for 151 hours 40 minutes during the month, compared with 158 hours for August last year. The total for the eight months of the year is 1266 hours, compared with 1232 hours last year.

A decision was made to form a committee and the following members were appointed: Messrs R. Cummings (chairman), R. Miller (secretary), J. Keir, W. Abernethy and J. Cumming. There was only a small attendance at the meeting and it was decided that the committee should have power to add to its number.

MAGISTRATE’S COURT.— Donald James Coutts, a farmer, of Wendon Valley, appeared before Mr R. Fisher, J.P., in the Gore Magistrate’s Court yesterday on a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor truck. The accused was remanded to appear before the Magistrate at Gore next Tuesday, bail being allowed at £2O on accused’s own recognizance. SALVATION ARMY.— Today Commissioner and Mrs J. Evan Smith, territorial leaders of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, will visit Gore.
