DAY OF PRAYER TODAY

The Empire Day of Prayer, called by the King to mark the third anniversary of the outbreak of war, will be observed in Invercargill today. The arrangements have been made by the Minister’s Association. St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church will be open all day, and hourly sessions of intercession will be conducted by ministers of different churches. From 7 to 7.30 p.m. a special session for workers and others unable to attend during the day will be held. From 12.30 to 1.30 p.m. there will be a citizens' service of prayer in the Civic Theatre, which has also been arranged by the Ministers’ Association. The Mayor and city councillors will be on the platform and the service will be led by the Rev. C. J. Tocker, the Rev. W. H. Greenslade, the Rev. R. H. Turner, and the Ven. Archdeacon Lush. This midday service is planned for business men and women, and it is hoped that whether their lunch hour is 12 to 1 or 1 to 2, people will be able to attend if only for a few minutes.
