MAKING OF MACHINE TOOLS
Start In Invercargill Because of the difficulty of getting goods from overseas New Zealand is now manufacturing many articles that were formerly imported. The latest development in this direction is the manufacture of machine tools, which are the foundation of the munition making industry. The industry is only in its infancy, but Invercargill is already doing its part through the manufacture of hack saw machines for cutting bar steel by the firm of H. E. Melhop Ltd. Already three dozen of these machines have been sent to different parts of New Zealand and another consignment of nine was being prepared for dispatch yesterday, ’Hie machines are required for the making of munitions. Plans are being made for> the manufacture of other types of machine tools by the firm.
