Applicants must be not less than twenty-three or more than forty-five years of age, and must hold a Master’s foreign-going certificate. Applications are invited from suitable youths aged 17 or 18 years last birthday who desire to enter the Locomotive Branch of the Railways. Successful candidates will commence as locomotive cleaners. Minimum commencing wages—£2/8/4 to £2/14/2 per week (plus cost of living allowance) according to age. Appointees, after a short period of cleaning duties, may qualify as acting locomotive firemen with ultimate prospect of promotion to engine driver. Time acting as firemen is paid for at a minimum rate of 2/4f per hour. Educational qualification required— Primary School Certificate (sixth standard).
