RATIONING OF SUGAR IN AUSTRALIA
(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 31. From today every person in Australia will be rationed to 21b of sugar a fortnight. The object of this rationing, it is stated, will be to enable supplies to be sent to Allies abroad and reserves to be built up here. The Prime Minister, Mr John Curtin, states the rationing will not last longer than is necessary. The ration is regarded as liberal.
