SKIRTS TO BE WORN

Women Tram Conductors (P.A.) AUCKLAND, August 31. A decision that women tram conductors should continue to wear skirts and not slacks as suggested by a board member, Mrs M. M. Dreaver, was made by the Auckland Transport Board. The secretary-manager, Mr A. E. Ford, in his report stated that it was necessary to provide a uniform which would ensure respect from all sections of the travelling public and the diversities of age, types and figures of women conductors necessitated a dress suitable to all. Points for consideration were the additional amount of cloth required and the incongruous appearance of outsize women wearing slacks. For tramways work a majority of the conductors were satisfied with the present uniform and recommended that it should be adhered to. Hie manager’s report was adopted, Mrs Dreaver voting against it..
