PRESENTATIONS TO SOLDIERS
i . i ; GROVE BUSH.—A number of friends and . relations gathered at the home of Mr and ; Mrs J. Ross, Grove Bush, recently to hon- > our Driver L. J. Ross. Mr C. Warden . (chairman) said that because of such short , notice being given the Patriotic Committee . was not able to arrange a public function. , Mr A. Boniface presented Driver Ross with I a wallet and sum of money and wished i him the best of luck and a safe return. . Messrs T. Helm and J. Hanning also spoke. MENZIES FERRY.— There was a large attendance at the Menzies Ferry Hall to i honour Corporal E. Laurie and Private N. 1 McDonald. On behalf of district residents, Mr G. W. Stewart presented Private Mcl Donald with a cheque, and Corporal Laurie, : who is on leave from overseas, with a small ■ gift. Mrs R. Clark, on behalf of the Comforts Committee, presented each with a par--1 cel of knitted goods and a hold-all. Seven visiting soldiers were presented with cigar- ! ettes. WYNDHAM.— During the week two sol1 diers were honoured at informal functions, these being Captain R. Rice and Private H. Wilson, both of whom were presented with cheques and parcels of comforts from the Wyndham Comforts Committee. Mr L. Harper presented the gifts at both functions and at the one to Captain Rice, other I speakers were Mrs R. G. Carson and Messrs H. Hunter, D. N. A. Macpherson and A. Rae, representing the R.S.A. Captain Rice made an interesting reply.
