Captain F. J. Callan, second pilot on the staff of the Bluff Harbour Board, has been appointed harbourmaster to the Timaru Harbour Board and will leave Bluff to take up his new appointment in about six weeks’ time. Mr A. J. Campbell will leave by this afternoon’s express for Wellington to attend the annual conference of professional photographers. ■Mr W. A. Croft, chief clerk of the district traffic manager’s office of the Railways Department, Invercargill, is spending a week’s leave in Christchurch. Private S. Batchelor, a member of the Te Rangi Bowling Club, was met by members recently. Good wishes for his future welfare were expressed by the president, Mr J. G. Holdsworth, and other members. A presentation of a suitcase, suitably inscribed, was made to the Hon. W. H. Mclntyre by the Buller County Council and the staff in recognition of his 27 years’ membership. The chairman spoke of his wonderful service to the residents of the county as chairman of the Hospital and Education Boards member of the Licensing bench and of the Cawthron Institute and as a member of the Legislative Council. Mr Mclntyre thanked the council and said he owed his position as a member of the Legislative Council to his early connection with the Buller County Council which had made much progress in the last quarter of a century and he was happy to have been associated with such progress.—P.A. Mr H. M. Boddington, who has been closely associated with tennis administration in the Wairarapa for 36 years and has been 20 years on the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Council, has been elected president of the New Zealand Tennis Association, according to advice received in Masterton. Mr Boddington was formerly secretary of the Masterton Tennis Club and the Wairarapa Association for a long period.—P.A. Mr S. E. Griffiths has been appointed manager of the new branch office at Dunedin of J. B. Westray (N.Z.) Ltd. (Lloyds Insurance), who have been operating for the last four years on a district agency basis.
