DUNEDIN COMPETITIONS

At the Dunedin competitions last night, successes were gained by several Southland competitors. In the national song for women Miss Catherine Stewart (Gore) was placed second with 86 points. In the same section Miss Daphne Smith (Invercargill) and Miss M. H. Mcßae (Dipton) were highly commended. There were 29 competitors. In the women’s song class a Gore trio, Miss Catherine Stewart, Miss Evelyn Johnson and Miss Nellie Johnson were placed first. Miss June Chamberlain (Gore) was highly commended in the vocal solo. 12 to 16, in which there were 30 competitors, and Miss Marie Winders (Invercargill) was highly commended in the chief piano solo contest.
