YOUTH FOUND SHOT
Bank Clerk At Timaru A member of the staff of the Bank of Australasia at Timaru, who lived at the bank, was found on the premises on Saturday evening with a bullet wound in his head. Shortly after 9 o’clock, Dr G. H. Ussher received a call to the bank, the message indicating that someone had been shot. Arriving at the bank the doctor was unable to gain admission, but he could hear groans near the door. The person inside informed him that he could not open the door. Dr Ussher advised the manager of the bank, Mr H. E. D. Wilcox, who accompanied the doctor back to the premises and opened the door with his keys (says The Press, Christchurch). A member of the staff was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood, his keys being on the floor nearby. The youth had a severe wound in the head, and he was immediately taken to hospital, where an operation was performed and a bullet extracted. An examination of the youth’s bedroom at the bank revealed a fair amount of blood, and there were also indications that he had walked into other departments before telephoning for help. A revolver was found on the youth’s bed, and on a nearby table was a shell case. The youth’s condition was reported to be satisfactory.
