INVESTIGATIONS INTO WAIROA TRAGEDY

(P.A.) WAIROA, August 27. Despite atrocious weather the police are still carrying on their inquiries into the deaths of Brigadier Annie Smyth and Miss Rosamund Smyth. These entail many journeys to outlying districts and such are proving arduous because of the cold and heavy rain. It now appears that the time of the tragedy is being fixed and the indications are that the investigations are progressing satisfactorily. The full complement of officers reported earlier is still in the district. As usual in this type of crime the inquiries entail considerable work, and it may be some days before anything further of an important nature will become known.
