DONATION TO PATRIOTIC FUND.— The New Zealand Federation of Labour has donated £lBO to the Patriotic Fund. A sum of £lO is to be allocated to each provincial patriotic council. GRID AT BLUFF.— Members of the Bluff Harbour Board inspected the ferry wharf yesterday to consider the proposal to establish a grid nearby for the use of fishing boats. They decided to take no action and to use the present slipway. RED CROSS ASSISTANCE—The New Zealand Red Cross Society has wired its sympathy to the tornado sufferers at Kaitaia, at the same time intimating that assistance will be available through its disaster relief fund. —P.A. TRANSFER TO E.P.S.—In accordance with ti.e requirements of a recent regulation all members of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary aattached or seconded, to the E.P.S. are to be transferred from the W.W.S.A. to the E.P.S. The transfer affects women serving in the cycle corps of messengers, the canteen branch, the Plunket aid branch and the transport section of the E.P.S. One result of the transfer will be that the women concerned will have insurance cover. CHILD BURNED.— A two-year-old girl, Wynnis Forde, of Waihoaka, was burned about the legs when her dress caught fire when she was standing in front of an open fire. She was removed to the Riverton Hospital where she is progressing favourably. CHRISTMAS PARCELS FOR SOLDIERS. —Relations and friends of persons in the Middle East and Great Britain are advised by the Postmaster-General that if they wish to send Christmas parcels these should be posted not later than the end of September. —P.A. NATIONAL SAVINGS.— Up to Wednesday £3ll had been received in National Savings investments at Invercargill, leaving just over £l7OO required by tomorrow to reach the quota of £2043 for the forty-first successive week.
