PATRIOTIC SING AT BALFOUR

A splendid response was made by the residents of Balfour and district at a patriotic community sing held in the township. when the sum of £450 was raised. The hall was packed to capacity and under the leadership of Mr H. H. Brown, of Gore, an enjoyable evening was spent. A “mayoral”- contest between Mr J. P. McLeod and Mr W. Gillespie, two wellknown residents, added interest to the evening’s entertainment. The popularity of the two men was so close that at the end it was found that their respective surmo-t rs had contributed amounts which varied by little more than £l. It was agreed to decide the issue by the toss of a coin and Mr McLeod was the winner. Mr A. Orr was chairman and associated with him was the Mayor of Gore, Mr W. I>. Shelton.
