CHRISTIAN ORDER
(Contributed) On every hand today we hear talk of the new order and there seems no doubt that some kind of a new order will follow this war. But the important question is, what kind of a new order? It is conceivable that it might be a reversion to the state of things in the Dark Ages, for an improved state of society is not a thing that just happens. Sir Alfred Zimmern, Professor of International Relations in the University of Oxford, considers that one of the reasons why the League of Nations failed was because it was suddenly sprung upon a world that had not been prepared to receive it; and the same fate will happen to the new order unless men and women begin to think now in terms of new order—unless they understand what is meant by new order. The Christian Church maintains that no new order unless it is based on the Word of God, will result in the betterment of the human lot. Justice, righteousness, honour, freedom and ordered government, have very little meaning unless they are measured by some standard which is outside and above all human standards. The “national well-being” is riot a sufficient standard as we see in the case of Germany. The campaign for Christian Order at present being conducted in New Zealand, aims at preparing people for the new order. All over the Dominion at present mass meetings are being held for this purpose. In Invercargill tonight Dean Cruickshank, of Dunedin, and Principal A. L. Haddon, M.A., of the Church of Christ College, Dunedin, will address a mass meeting in the Civic Theatre on the church’s idea of new order. It is expected that the theatre will be filled to capacity.
