The Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall, yesterday received Squadron Leader R. B. Bannerman, of Gore.— PA. The Mayor, Mr A. Wachner, and the town clerk, Mr W. F. Sturman, returned yesterday after spending the weekend at Stewart Island. Mr D. K. Torrance has been appointed controller of the wardens’ unit of the Invercargill E.P.S. in succession to Mr J. Pickard, who recently resigned from that position. Mr T. J. Gosling has been appointed deputy controller in succession to Mr Torrance. Mr W. A. McCaw was last night elected Chief of the St. Andrew’s Scottish Society of Southland in succession to the late Mr J. L. McG. Watson.
