BLUFF NEWS

PATRIOTIC CONCERT.— As the result of a Id concert arranged by the sixth standard girls of the Bluff school, the sum of £1 13/6 has been handed in to patriotic funds. “100 CROWDED YEARS.”— This special picture, which will be screened in the Bluff Town Hall on Thursday at 8 p.m in aid of the sick and wounded and prisoners of war fund, is full of interest. With a good supporting programme, an enjoyable entertainment is assured. CHURCH BAZAAR.— The annual bazaar conducted by the Presbyterian Church-was opened by the Deputy Mayor, Mr 0. F. Metzger. The various stalls were in charge of women members of the church and the church managers also had a stall. Excellent business was done. The entertainment took

the form of a charming children's cantata, "Roses of Joy," which was produced by Mrs A. M. Wilson. She was assisted by Miss M McKenzie and Mr E. W. McKenzie. NATIONAL SAVINGS.—The postmaster, Mr A. M. Wilson, reports that Bluff for the 21st successive week attained its National Savings quota. A feature of last week's collection was that up to Friday night only £29 had been received. The balance of £lO5 to attain the quota had been collected on Saturday. GOLF.—L. Morrison was the winner of a stroke match played on the Bluff links on Saturday, his score being Sl-36-55. The next best cards were—H. A. Ferguson 90-24-66; E. J. Moon 102-36-66. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.—A successful demonstration and competition in ambulance work took place at Bluff. Mr Bemrose, district officer for Southland and Mr Kennedy, secretary, were present Nine teams took

part, six from Invercargill and three from Bluff. Two demonstrations were given, one being a shield competition, which was won by the Invercargill women's team. Dr A. R. Ross acted as Judge. PRESENTATION TO SOLDIER.—Before his departure for overseas Sergeant L. G. Calder was presented with a gift from the Bluff Citizens’ Committee. Bluff sports bodies also handed him a gift.
