SOUTHLAND SOLDIERS IN CASUALTY LISTS Word has been received by Mr and Mrs G. H. Bone, Otautau, that their son, Private Gordon David Bone, has been killed on active service. Bom at Otautau 28 years ago he was educated at the Otautau school. Later he was employed by the Internal Affairs Department in deer-culling 'operations, and in the off season wdrked with farmers in the Fairfax district. He was a keen sportsman and a good shot with a rifle. His chief hobby was cycle racing. He left New Zealand with the 4th Reinforcements. Private W. D. Mcßae, who has been reported wounded, is the eldest son of Mr and Mrs T. Mcßae, Browns. He was educated at the Browns and Limehills schools and before enlisting was employed as head quarryman at the Browns lime works. He was a keen tennis player and for many years played for the Browns Tennis Club. Mr and Mrs Kemp, Gorge Road, have received cabled advice that their son Corporal Kenneth Kemp, who was recently reported wounded, is safe and well. He was educated at the St. George and Waimatuku schools and the Southland Technical College. Before his enlistment he was employed on his father’s farm and the Strathallan estate. Corporal Kemp served in Greece and Libya. Mr and Mrs R. McGillvray, Mataura, have received advice that their son, Gunner T. C. McGillvray, is safe and well. Advice has been received that Corporal Verdun Affleck, son of Mrs R. Anderson, Otatara, is safe and well. Mr and Mrs T. Small, of Lumsden, have received cabled advice from their son, Corporal Lloyd Small, that he is safe and well. AIR FORCE PLANE MISSING (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 24. An aircraft of the R.N.Z.A.F. engaged in co-operation with a Home Guard unit yesterday morning has been reported missing. The pilot was Pilot Officer Mason Irvine Elliott (wife, Mrs K. Elliott, Wellington), and with him as passenger was Lieutenant Harold Francis Bollard (wife, Mrs H. F. Bollard, Wellington). An extensive search is being maintained.
