DEARER BOTTLED BEER
Christchurch Price List (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 24. For the purpose of bringing Christchurch prices into line with those in other cities, the Canterbury Licensed Victuallers’ Association has issued a new beer and stout price list-for hotels in Christchurch and the suburbs. The price of glasses and handles sold over the bar remains at 7d, but increases are made in the prices of bottles of beer and stout. The main items on the new price list, which comes into operation tomorrow, are: Local ale and stout, from 2/- to 2/1 a bottle; other South Island ale and stout, from 2/3; New Zealand lager, from. 2/7; New Zealand lager (pints), from 1/5; draught ale (gallon), from 7/3; half-gallon, from 3/9, “blue peters,” from 5/6. Mr K. N. McGillivray, secretary of the association, said that when the Price Tribunal considered the effect of the increased taxation on the price of beer and stout and authorized general increases, authority was given for Christchurh hotels to raise their charges to the level of those, in other centres. As the full effect of the increases had not then been felt by the licensed trade in Christchurch, it had not taken advantage of that authority until now.
