N.Z. AIRMAN AWARDED D.F.M.
WELLINGTON, August 23. The Distinguished Flying Medal has been awarded to Pilot Officer (formerly Flight Sergeant) Raymond Albert Peters, of the Royal New Zealand Air Force, according to official advice received at Air Headquarters, Wellington. Pilot Officer Peters was born in Wanganui in 1920 and educated at Palmerston North High School. He applied for enlistment in the Royal New Zealand Air Force within a month of the outbreak of the war. His father is Mr A. Peters,..of Linton. The citation states: “Pilot Officer Peters displayed great energy and miative always. In attacks on shipping he has sunk a merchant ship and an Eboat at night, he also destroyed one and probably destroyed two other enemy aircraft,”
