GROWING AMERICAN WAR PRODUCTION
(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, August 22. Mr Donald Nelson, chairman of the War Production Board, reported that war production had increased by 250 per cent, since the Pearl Harbour bombing and 16 per cent since last month, and he said the re/t of the year would tell .a story. Mr Nelson gave a warning that the July output was still 7 per cent, behind schedule because of difficulties in co-ordinating materials. The specified aircraft production in July had increased 11 per cent, since June, but the output of combat planes fell short of expectations and had not reached the planned schedule of the next few months. The July production of medium tanks exceeded the June production by 35 per cent. Light tanks were 15 per cent, ahead, while the output of anti-aircraft guns had increased by 64 per cent, in the same period.
