NEW ZEALAND CADETS

Mr Jordan Pays Visit

(Special Correspondent, N.Z.P.A.) (Rec. 7 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 21. The New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr W. J. Jordan, inspecting New Zealand cadet ratings under instruction at H.M.S. King Alfred, met Telegraphist Niven Mitchell (Christchurch) and Motor Mechanic D. E W. Gillies (Wellington), both of whom had just returned from Dieppe. Both were fit and well. They told Mr Jordan they were very pleased at the chance to participate in the operation. Mr' Jordan also met Paymaster-Lieutenant-Commander G. H. Ashby, who recently returned after service on the New Zealand station. He is now instructing at H.M.S. King Alfred. Cadet Rating A. H. B. Holland (Christchurch), commanded a launch in which Mr Jordan went to sea and saw the cadets receiving navigation instruction. The following received sub-lieuten-ants’ commissions on the day of Mr Jordan’s visit:— W. M. Armstrong (Auckland), D. H. Scott (Wellington), G. J. Plank (Christchurch) and G. G. Thomson (Port Chalmers). Mr Jordan also had a long talk with Rear-Admiral H. E. Horan, who was commodore of the New Zealand station at the outbreak of the war.

Anderson, J. V. Bond, L. C. Batchelor, A. R. Pritchard (Dunedin), W. Henderson (Napier), C. P. Harker, T. H. N. White (Hawke’s Bay), I. M. Lyons (Hastings), A. H. Good (Hawera), J. P. May (Wanganui), I. Walton and R. C. Hannon (Oamaru), M. E. Wycherley, C. W. Holmes (Palmerston North), R. A. Mitford-Burgess

(Te Aroha), H. A. Morton (Timaru), K. F. Cochran (Marton), J. M. Fraser (Port Chalmers), C. Wyeth (Invercargill), T. A. Larsen (Ohakune), M. A. Ballinger (Rangiahua), and A. Miles (Kapoi).
